Commentary
Fire beneath the mountain casts shadows among the stars. The Mao and Bi constellations press close to the star Fuer ('Attached Ear'), a celestial configuration the ancients associated with military counsel whispered to a commander. The general seeks to unleash his fury; paths are blocked and barricaded. Sparrows and swallows startle in alarm. In Han-dynasty astrology, the Bi constellation governed border troops and hunting, while Fuer represented the advisor whispering in the ruler's ear. When these stars cluster, it signals military agitation and blocked passage. From Grace to Peace, the mountain's martial fire yields to the free exchange of heaven and earth. What was blocked opens; what was agitated settles into the harmony of Tai.
