What is Yilin (Forest of Changes)?

The Forest of Changes, attributed to Jiao Gan (焦贛), also known as Jiao Yanshou, a Western Han scholar active around 50 BCE. Contains 4,096 poetic verses — most commonly four clauses each — one for every possible hexagram-to-hexagram transformation (64 x 64). Each verse is a compressed poem drawing on history, mythology, natural imagery, and classical allusion. The complete Yilin is included in Six Lines, each verse paired with original ink brush artwork.
