Yilin Verse
重瞳四乳,聰明順理;無隱不形,微視千里;災害不作,君子集聚。
Double pupils, four breasts, perceptive and wise, following natural order. Nothing hidden fails to appear; subtle vision spans a thousand miles. Disaster and harm do not arise; the worthy gather together.
— Jiao Yanshou, Yilin (Forest of Changes), 1st century BCE
Commentary
Earth above heaven, Peace perfected in sage perception. 'Double pupils and four nipples' names the physical signs of Emperor Shun (double pupils) and King Wen (four nipples) — two sage-kings whose extraordinary vision penetrated all concealment. Nothing hidden fails to manifest; subtle perception reaches a thousand li. Calamities do not arise, and gentlemen gather in harmony. The verse combines Shun's clairvoyance with Wen's superhuman discernment to paint an age of total transparency and natural order. From Peace to After Completion, water sits above fire in perfect equipoise. The transformation shows Peace reaching its ideal terminus: every element in its proper place, sages assembled, all under heaven completed.
