Commentary
Thunder erupts from the earth as Cangtang carries out his diplomatic mission. The state of Zhongshan demonstrates filial piety, and Lord Wen of Wei is delighted, summoning his heir Prince Ji with warmth. According to the Han Shi Waizhuan, Prince Ji of Wei was sealed in Zhongshan but had no contact with his father for three years. His tutor Cangtang volunteered as envoy, bringing gifts of northern hounds and morning geese. Through skillful diplomacy, he reminded Lord Wen that a father should not neglect his son. The lord was moved and recalled his heir. From Enthusiasm to Abundance, the mission succeeds spectacularly: thunder and lightning together illuminate the truth. One well-timed embassy restores a broken bond and floods the court with renewed warmth.
