Yilin Verse
齊姜叔子,天文在位;實沉參墟,封為康侯。
Jiang of Qi and Shuzi -- the celestial pattern in its place. Shi Chen at the ruins of Shen; enfeoffed as the Marquis of Kang.
— Jiao Yanshou, Yilin (Forest of Changes), 1st century BCE
Commentary
Thunder rests within the lake, and the verse weaves together marriage alliance and celestial mandate. Qi Jiang and Shu Zi — figures possibly referring to the Jiang consort of a Qi or Jin lord and a younger prince — are positioned under the governance of astral lodges. Shi Chen presides over the lodge of Shen (Orion), the stellar domain assigned to the state of Jin in the ancient fenye system of astral-territorial correspondence recorded in the Zuo Zhuan. The figure is enfeoffed as 'Marquis of Kang,' echoing the investiture of Kang Shu, founder of the state of Wei. From Following to Duration, thunder and wind sustain each other endlessly — a lineage established under heaven's stars endures because its mandate is woven into the cosmic pattern itself.
