Commentary
Earth upon earth gives way to heaven above fire — Fellowship with Men. An eldest son and a youngest daughter face each other in conversation, sharing blessings and delight. The image is intimate and auspicious: two people of complementary nature finding common ground. Heaven and fire share the same upward direction, the basis of Hexagram 13's harmony — fellowship arises from shared aspiration rather than identical nature. The eldest son (Zhen trigram) and youngest daughter (Dui trigram) represent the full range of the family reaching across generational distance. From the Receptive to Fellowship, the earth's capacity to hold all things becomes the ground on which diverse people gather in genuine accord. Communion requires both difference and willingness to meet.
