Yilin Verse
壅遏隄防,水不得行。火光盛陽,陰蜺伏匿。走歸其鄉。
Dams and dikes block the way; water cannot flow. Firelight blazes with fierce yang; the dark rainbow hides and crouches. It flees and returns to its lair.
— Jiao Yanshou, Yilin (Forest of Changes), 1st century BCE
Commentary
Dikes and levees are built to block the flow, and water cannot pass. Firelight blazes with yang's full force, while the yin rainbow crouches in hiding. Dark forces flee back to their own domain. From Innocence to Fellowship, the transformation shows how collective clarity expels what does not belong. Tongren's image of heaven united with fire illuminates all things and gathers the like-minded, while those of different nature scatter. The dam imagery adds a crucial dimension: fellowship requires active containment, channeling energy to exclude destructive elements. The yin rainbow — traditionally associated with improper influences — cannot survive under brilliant yang, and retreats of its own accord.
