Yilin Verse
患解憂除,王母相於。與喜俱來,使我安居。
Trouble is resolved, worry removed; the Queen Mother looks after us. Together with joy she comes; granting us peaceful dwelling.
— Jiao Yanshou, Yilin (Forest of Changes), 1st century BCE
Commentary
A spring beneath the mountain is soothed by a maternal blessing. Troubles dissolve and worries lift; the Queen Mother intercedes on one's behalf. Joy arrives together with her favor, granting secure dwelling. The Queen Mother of the West — or here possibly a domestic 'wang mu,' the household matriarch — extends her protection, and peace follows immediately. From Youthful Folly to The Gentle, doubled wind penetrates softly and thoroughly. The commander issues orders that permeate every corner without force. The naif who was anxious and lost receives shelter not through dramatic rescue but through gentle, persistent care. Like wind that enters where hammers cannot, the maternal presence quietly restores order from within.
