Yilin Verse
蝦蟆群聚,從天請雨。雲雷運集,應時輒下,得其所願。
Toads gather in a throng, beseeching heaven for rain. Clouds and thunder converge; at the proper moment it falls, and they obtain their wish.
— Jiao Yanshou, Yilin (Forest of Changes), 1st century BCE
Commentary
Wind over mountain meets heaven with fire: gradual development joins the fellowship of shared purpose. Frogs gather in a chorus and petition heaven for rain. Clouds and thunder mass in response, and the downpour arrives on schedule, granting their collective wish. The humble creatures succeed not through individual effort but through unified appeal. From Development to Fellowship, the solitary tree growing on the mountain becomes a community raising its voice together. Heaven and fire, the image of Fellowship, illuminate the same direction. The rain that answers the frogs' prayer is the natural reward of collective resonance: many small voices, gradually assembled, produce the thunderstorm that no single voice could summon alone.
