Nine in the fifth place means: The wild goose gradually draws near the summit. For three years the woman has no child. In the end nothing can hinder her. Good fortune.

上九 鴻漸于陸。其羽可用為儀。吉。
Nine at the top means: The wild goose gradually draws near the clouds heights. Its feathers can be used for the sacred dance. Good fortune.

Commentary
Wind over mountain meets thunder above heaven: gradual development gathers into Great Power. One who possesses the virtue of self-regulation does not venture into a disordered state. Though the present is dim and without light, great celebration awaits in the end. The verse counsels restraint as a precondition for eventual strength. By refusing to entangle oneself in chaos, one preserves the inner resources that will later manifest as power. From Development to Great Power, thunder rides above heaven, the image of overwhelming force disciplined by propriety. The gentleman does not tread where ritual forbids. Gradual cultivation, combined with the discipline to avoid premature engagement, transforms into the thunderous authority of Great Power. Darkness endured patiently becomes the prelude to magnificence.
