Commentary
Thunder and fire blaze in Abundance, and the verse quotes the Yijing's own hexagram text for Feng. 'At midday the market opens; each brings what they have, exchanging goods and wealth.' This is a direct echo of the Xici Zhuan's description of Shennong's market: the people gather at noon to trade, then depart satisfied. The final image — 'carrying pearls in one's bosom, treasuring jewels' — elevates the commercial scene to one of hidden value. From Abundance to Grace, fire illuminates beneath the mountain: the marketplace's busy exchange yields to quiet aesthetic refinement. Grace adorns what was merely functional, and the pearls carried within emerge as the true treasure — not traded but cherished.
