Pulling the ox by the tail, it is bent and twisted nearly to death. In a declining age without mercy, one knows not where it leads.

注释
地中生木，升之象。牽牛繫尾，詘折幾死——拽住牛尾，扭折其身幾至於死。天在山中為大畜（君子以多識前言往行以畜其德），蓄積天之創造力以待大用之象。然彫世無仁，不知所在——衰世無仁義可尋，德之所在已不可知。此處之蓄非善養而為酷虐——不待牛之成長而強拽其尾，致其身體扭曲幾殆。從升至大畜，上升之力遇強制蓄止，然蓄之方式全然錯誤：非以德畜之而以暴折之。升之木遇暴力之阻，本應滋養培育者反被摧殘扭曲。仁道既喪，蓄無所蓄。
