Commentary
Heaven above the lake opens onto a vision of sanctuary. A traveler dwells at Stone Gate, safe in body and secure in fortune. Blessings arrive from the western neighbor, and one returns home to drink from a jade spring. Stone Gate may allude to the place where Confucius's disciple Zilu once spent the night, but here the image is purely auspicious: finding refuge in a solid place, receiving generosity from neighbors, and drinking from a source of purity. From Treading to Conflict, the transformation is paradoxical — proper conduct creates a haven even where heaven and water run contrary. The one who treads correctly finds peace amid opposition.
