Yilin Verse

一臂六手,不便於口;莫肯與用,利棄我走。

One arm, six hands, yet none can reach the mouth. No one will lend their use; better to cast me aside and flee.

— Jiao Yanshou, Yilin (Forest of Changes), 1st century BCE

Commentary

Heaven and fire rise together in Fellowship, yet here the collective fractures beyond repair. A creature with one arm and six hands cannot feed its own mouth — too many limbs, no coordination, each grasping finger working against the others. No one will cooperate; all abandon the enterprise and flee. The image captures a group so dysfunctional that its very structure defeats its purpose. From Fellowship to the Creative, the transformation is stark: what should become unified self-generating power instead scatters, because fellowship without shared purpose produces only grotesque multiplicity. The Creative's ceaseless strength demands singular will; a six-handed body pulling in every direction achieves nothing.
