Commentary
Thunder stirs the earth, and water is drawn up to wash stones gleaming white. The garments are plain silk within and vermilion without — inner purity dressed in outward beauty. The wearer roams freely through marshland meadows, obtaining what the heart desires, in full contentment. The image is of purification and adornment working together: the rough stone scoured clean, the robe layered with meaning. From Enthusiasm to Great Exceeding, the transformation pushes to the limit. The lake submerges the trees; the gentleman stands alone without fear. Here the verse captures the liberating excess of someone who has reconciled inner substance with outer display and now moves beyond ordinary constraints, achieving desires that others dare not even name.
