Yilin Verse
春草榮華,長女宜夫;受福多年,世有封祿。
Spring grasses bloom in splendor; the elder daughter is well suited to her husband. She receives blessings for many years -- the line enjoys hereditary rank.
— Jiao Yanshou, Yilin (Forest of Changes), 1st century BCE
Commentary
Wind over earth surveys a flourishing springtime scene. Spring grasses bloom in splendor, and the eldest daughter finds a fitting husband. Blessings last for many years, and the family enjoys hereditary rank and emolument generation after generation. The verse is a straightforward celebration of marital prosperity and dynastic continuity: the eldest daughter's marriage is fertile as spring grass, producing lasting fortune. Thunder over wind forms Duration, which establishes what endures through constancy. From Contemplation to Duration, the transformation shows observation confirming what will last: the spring marriage that takes root properly grows into an institution that persists across generations, as steady as thunder and wind reinforcing each other.
