Yilin Verse
王母多福,天祿所伏。居之寵光,君子有昌。
The Queen Mother bestows abundant blessings; heaven's bounty lies in store. Dwelling in honored radiance; the noble man finds flourishing.
— Jiao Yanshou, Yilin (Forest of Changes), 1st century BCE
Commentary
Thunder beneath heaven clears the way for celestial blessing. The Queen Mother of the West, guardian of the peaches of immortality, bestows abundant fortune; heaven's own emolument shelters the recipient. To dwell in such radiance is to receive the splendor of favor, and the noble person prospers. From Innocence to Waiting, the transformation shifts from spontaneous action to patient trust in heaven's timing. The Queen Mother's gifts do not arrive through striving — they descend upon those who wait with uncorrupted sincerity. Xu's image of clouds gathering over heaven promises nourishment that will come in its own season, and the wise response is to feast and celebrate with confidence.
