Yilin Verse
江陰水側,舟楫破乏,孤不得南,豹無以北。
By the river south of the Jiang, the boat and oars are broken and spent. Alone, one cannot go south; the leopard has no means to go north.

Commentary
Thunder above wind, Duration's enduring pattern, turns into mountain above wind — Work on the Decayed's urgent repair of inherited ruin. On the south bank of the river, boats and oars are broken and depleted. The solitary one cannot cross southward; the leopard has no means to head north. Both sides are stranded, each cut off from the other by the shattered ferry. Duration's steady course meets the impassable wreckage of decay: what should connect now separates. The river with broken vessels is the decayed institution that no amount of persistence can navigate. From Duration to Work on the Decayed, the transformation demands not more persistence but renovation. The wind beneath the mountain stirs what has stagnated; only by repairing the vessels can the crossing resume.
