Yilin Verse
亡羊補牢,毋損於憂。
Mending the pen after losing the sheep; let there be no further grief.
— Jiao Yanshou, Yilin (Forest of Changes), 1st century BCE
Commentary
Wind beneath heaven admits the wolf, but the pen can still be mended. 'Mend the fold after losing the sheep — do not compound the loss with worry.' The allusion comes from the Zhanguoce: the minister Zhuang Xin warned King Xiang of Chu that his indulgence would cost him his capital. When Ying indeed fell to Qin, the king recalled Zhuang Xin, who counseled that it was not too late to repair the sheepfold. The verse distills this wisdom into eight characters of crystalline brevity. From Coming to Meet to Great Power, thunder roars above heaven in raw, surging yang energy. Gou's yin intrusion has caused damage, but Da Zhuang's overwhelming strength can still reverse the loss — if corrective action is taken now.
