新受大喜,福履重職,樂且日富。
Newly received, great joy; blessings tread upon weighty office. Delight, and daily growing richer.
— Jiao Yanshou, Yilin (Forest of Changes), 1st century BCE
Commentary
Lake gathered upon the earth yields to the vast receptivity of doubled earth. One receives great joy anew, blessings compound upon blessings, and with each day wealth increases. The verse unfolds as pure felicity: a fresh appointment, layered responsibilities, happiness and daily prosperity. No historical allusion is named; instead the imagery is generic divinatory language of accumulating fortune. From Gathering to the Receptive, the transformation suggests that when people assemble under proper leadership, the earth's capacity to bear and nourish expands without limit. Receptive ground does not resist what comes; it simply sustains more and more. The gathered community becomes the fertile soil from which abundance naturally grows.
