Commentary
Lake upon earth gives way to fire emerging above the earth, the bright Progress of Jin. Seated peacefully in a jade hall, one listens to music and raises the goblet. Drinking in blessings for ten thousand years, receiving bounty without end each day. The jade hall is the mark of highest court privilege, where only those closest to the sovereign feast. Music accompanies wine in the ancient ritual banquet, and the phrase 'drink blessings' (yin fu) refers specifically to the ritual portion of sacrificial meat and wine shared after a state ceremony. From Gathering to Progress, the assembly becomes celebration: what was merely proximate now advances into radiant prosperity. Fire rising from the earth illuminates the feast, and the gathered community shares in the sovereign's grace.
