Yilin Verse
韓氏長女,嫁於東海。宜家富主,柔順以居。利得過倍。
The eldest daughter of the Han clan, married by the Eastern Sea. A fitting wife for a wealthy lord; gentle and obedient in her dwelling. Profit gained exceeds the double.
— Jiao Yanshou, Yilin (Forest of Changes), 1st century BCE
Commentary
Clouds above heaven become thunder and lightning blazing together in Abundance. The eldest daughter of the Han clan is married to the Eastern Sea. She enriches her household and serves its master with gentle compliance. Her profits double what was expected. The verse is a celebration of a prosperous match: a well-born woman married to a distant, wealthy household, whose capable management multiplies the family's fortune. The 'Eastern Sea' signals both geographical distance and the vastness of opportunity. From Waiting to Abundance, patient nourishment builds to its fullest expression: thunder and lightning together illuminate and energize, and the capable woman becomes the vessel through which household wealth blazes into its maximum brightness.
