Commentary
Twin mountains stand still, but truth and falsehood are tangled beyond recognition, skewing judgment. Petty men occupy positions of power — what blame can even a sage bear? The verse raises a painful question: when deception has infiltrated every level, even the wisest cannot act effectively. Sincerity cannot be distinguished from fraud. From Keeping Still to Great Possession, mountain should yield to fire blazing in heaven, illuminating all below. Yet the verse denies that clarity. The mountain's stillness here is not contemplation but bewilderment — the sage stands frozen not in discipline but in futility, unable to sort real from counterfeit. Great Possession demands clear sight from above, and the verse admits that sight has been corrupted.
