Yilin Verse

隨風乘龍,與利相逢。田獲三倍,商旅有功。憧憧之邑,長安无他。

Riding the wind on a dragon; meeting with profit. Fields yield threefold; merchants prosper in their ventures. The bustling city of Chang'an; all is well, no other troubles.

— Jiao Yanshou, Yilin (Forest of Changes), 1st century BCE

Commentary

Wind upon wind transforms into heaven over wind: the Gentle becomes Coming to Meet. Riding the wind and mounting the dragon, one encounters profit at every turn. Fields yield threefold; merchants travel with success. The bustling town of Chang'an rests in lasting peace. The verse is wind imagery at its most auspicious: the wind itself becomes a vehicle, carrying the rider alongside the dragon of fortune. Agriculture and commerce both thrive, and the capital stands untroubled. From The Gentle to Coming to Meet, heaven spreads its decree across the four directions through wind. The sovereign issues commands; the world responds. Here the double wind of the source hexagram meets heaven's vast authority, and the result is universal prosperity — wind carrying blessings to every domain.
