Yilin Verse
謝恩拜德,東歸吾國。舞蹈欣躍,歡樂受福。
Giving thanks and paying homage; returning east to my homeland. Dancing and leaping with joy; happy and blessed.
— Jiao Yanshou, Yilin (Forest of Changes), 1st century BCE
Commentary
Heaven and water oppose, but gratitude and virtue heal the breach. One bows in thanks for grace received and returns eastward to the homeland. Dancing with joy, leaping in exultation, blessings are received with open happiness. The verse captures the moment after conflict ends — not bitter settlement but genuine jubilation. From Conflict to Inner Truth, wind blows over the lake, the image of the hollow-hearted reed that resonates with truth. Zhongfu's power is sincerity so deep it moves even pigs and fish. The verse enacts this: when gratitude is genuine and virtue reciprocated, the returnee dances rather than skulks. Inner Truth transforms departure from conflict into homecoming — not just arriving back, but arriving back transformed.
