Yilin Verse
金牙鐵齒,西王母子。無有患殃。扶舍陟道,到來不久。
Golden fangs and iron teeth -- the children of the Queen Mother of the West. Free from plague and calamity. Supporting and climbing along the road; arrival is not far off.
— Jiao Yanshou, Yilin (Forest of Changes), 1st century BCE
Commentary
Wind above heaven kindles fire blazing in the sky. Metal teeth and iron jaws — these are the children of the Queen Mother of the West, fierce guardians of her immortal realm on Mount Kunlun. No calamity can touch them. The traveler climbs the road, leaning on staff and shelter, and arrival is imminent. From Small Taming to Great Possession, gentle cultivation explodes into radiant abundance. The Queen Mother's progeny are invulnerable because they partake of celestial power channeled through proper lineage. Da You's fire above heaven illuminates everything it surveys. The verse promises safe passage under divine protection — not through one's own strength but through alignment with powers greater than the self.
