Yilin Verse
李華再實,鴻卵降集;仁哲以興,蔭國受福。
The plum tree fruits twice; swan eggs descend and gather. The humane and wise begin their rise; shading the state, receiving blessings.
— Jiao Yanshou, Yilin (Forest of Changes), 1st century BCE
Commentary
Wind above heaven kindles into doubled fire — the Clinging's sustained brilliance. Plum blossoms fruit a second time; wild goose eggs descend and gather. The benevolent and wise rise to prominence, sheltering the state and bestowing its blessings. From Small Taming to the Clinging, the wind's gentle cultivation ignites into the great person's radiance illuminating all four directions. Li's image is brightness succeeding brightness — continuity of light. The plum fruiting twice captures this: one flowering is natural, a second is extraordinary grace. The goose eggs — symbols of fertility arriving from above — confirm that heaven favors this renewal. When wisdom governs, abundance renews itself without exhaustion.
