爪牙之士，怨毒祈父。轉憂與己，傷不及母。
Warriors with fangs and claws; they resent and curse their commander. Turning the trouble upon themselves; the injury does not reach the mother.

注释
地中有山，爪牙之士——王之勇士，國之干城。怨毒祈父——怨恨並詛咒祈父（司馬，掌京師兵力之官）。此直引《詩經·小雅·祈父》：「祈父！予王之爪牙，胡轉予于恤？」士卒無處安身之怨。轉憂與己——將怨恨轉向自身。傷不及母——使傷害不波及根本（母即國本）。士卒以己身承擔苦痛以護君主。從謙至歸妹（澤上有雷），非自主之結合，從屬之位。士卒之怨正體現此：身處未曾選擇之服役，吞咽苦澀以維繫尊卑之序。永終知敝——歸妹之道在知其弊而忍。
