明出地上，晉之象。「天命玄鳥，下生大商」——直引《詩經·商頌·玄鳥》：天命玄鳥降世，生出大商之祖。簡狄吞玄鳥之卵而生契，商族由此肇基。「造定四表，享國久長」——奠定四方秩序，國祚綿延。從晉至剝（山附於地），此變頗具深意：開國之榮與剝落之象並置。山石附地，層層剝蝕。即便天命所授之王朝，終有耗盡之日——一代代、一層層地消磨殆盡。光明之始與衰亡之終，在一詩之中並存。
