上九 鳥焚其巢。旅人先笑後號咷。喪牛于易。凶。
Nine at the top means: The bird's nest burns up. The wanderer laughs at first, Then must needs lament and weep. Through carelessness he loses his cow. Misfortune.

注释
山上有火，然山下獨夫老婦同居而不能生子。鰥寡俱處——各自孤獨，彼此相伴而無後嗣之望。三行之間盡是蕭索：無未來、無延續，唯有相伴衰老之寂寥。從旅至大壯（雷在天上），雷震天際，陽氣至盛。然此詩呈其反面：無法化生之結合，無從繁衍之強力。大壯之力若不得其用，只是空響而無所出。旅人配偶不當，縱有至近之距離，亦不能替代真正之生發之力。
