Yilin Verse
胎生孚乳,長息成就。充滿帝室,家國昌富。
Conceived in the womb, nursed and nurtured; growing to completion. Filling the imperial household; the family and state prosper and abound.
— Jiao Yanshou, Yilin (Forest of Changes), 1st century BCE
Commentary
From conception to birth and nursing, offspring grow to maturity. They fill the imperial chambers; family and state flourish together. From Creative to The Clinging, doubled fire — the great person sustains this brightness to illuminate all four directions. The verse traces a complete arc of generative power: conception, gestation, nursing, and maturation, culminating in a household so abundant it fills the royal halls. Li's fire is the fire of continuity — one flame lighting the next. Heaven's creative impulse, channeled through the biological chain of birth and nourishment, becomes the dynasty itself: each generation a new flame lit from the last, brightness propagated endlessly forward.
