Nine in the fourth place means: He who acts at the command of the highest Remains without blame. Those of like mind partake of the blessing.
Line 5
九五 休否。大人吉。其亡其亡。繫于苞桑。
Nine in the fifth place means: Standstill is giving way. Good fortune for the great man. "What if it should fail, what if it should fail?" In this way he ties it to a cluster of mulberry shoots.
Line 6
上九 傾否。先否後喜。
Nine at the top means: The standstill comes to an end. First standstill, then good fortune.

Yilin Verse
揚水潛鑿，使君潔白；衣素朱表，遊戲皋沃；得君所願，心志娛樂。
Drawing water and secretly channeling springs, to keep the lord pure and white. Wearing white silk beneath vermillion overcoat, one roams and plays in the rich meadow. Gaining the lord's desire; heart and spirit are delighted.

Commentary
Heaven and earth refuse to mingle, yet clear water is drawn up from deep channels, washing the lord clean and bright. Clad in white silk with vermilion lining, one wanders at leisure through the fertile lowlands of Gao and Wo, gaining every heart's desire in joy and contentment. From Standstill to The Army, Pi's sealed gates open into earth concealing water — disciplined reserves hidden beneath the surface. The Army's power is not in display but in the water stored within the earth, quietly nourishing. The verse captures this hidden abundance: beneath the stagnant surface, springs run clear. The white-and-vermilion garments suggest ritual purity wedded to authority, and the leisure at Gao and Wo evokes a commander's calm amid organized plenty.
