Yilin Verse
福過我里,入門笑喜;與吾利市。
Fortune passes through my village, enters the gate with laughter and delight; it brings us a profitable market.
— Jiao Yanshou, Yilin (Forest of Changes), 1st century BCE
Commentary
Wind over earth, and blessings arrive at the village gate. Fortune passes through the neighborhood, enters the door to laughter and delight, and brings profit in the marketplace. The verse is concise and jubilant — three short phrases capturing the moment when good fortune literally walks through the door. Doubled fire forms the Clinging, where light sustains light in continuous illumination. From Contemplation to the Clinging, watchful observation is rewarded with radiance: the one who has been looking outward from the gate finally sees blessings approach, and the fire's warmth enters the household. Joy and profit arrive together, naturally and without contrivance, like flame passing from one torch to another.
