Commentary
Mountain upon earth erodes into doubled thunder — the Arousing, shock upon shock. Jade pendants hang in clusters like flower buds, but there is nothing to string them on. Alone and grieving, dwelling in solitude, sorrow and worry consuming each other. The jade — precious, beautiful, heavy — cannot be worn because the cord has broken. The ornaments exist but lack the connecting thread that gives them purpose and place. This is loss of structure at the most intimate level: one possesses beauty but cannot display it, has treasures but cannot carry them. From Splitting Apart to the Arousing, the mountain's collapse shakes loose what was once securely mounted. Thunder doubles, and the precious things scatter. The Arousing demands self-examination through fear, but here the fear has already crystallized into lonely grief.
