Commentary
A lake upon a mountain, and brothers are reunited in celebration. A younger brother goes out to welcome his elder, and they meet joyfully in the sunlight. A gentleman and his Lady Ji sit together playing the reed-organ, making music in harmony. The verse radiates domestic warmth: kinship restored, husband and wife in musical accord, all bathed in the yang energy of an open, sunlit meeting. The reed-organ (簧) is a traditional instrument associated with courtship and marital harmony in the Shijing. From Influence to the Arousing, the mountain's gentle receptivity transforms into doubled thunder — shock upon shock, the force that startles but also revitalizes. Here the arousal is joyful: the thunder of reunion that shakes loose the stiffness of separation and fills the air with music.
