Yilin Verse

金泉黃寶,宜與我市。娶嫁有息,利得過母。

Golden springs and yellow treasure, fit for my trading. Marriage brings offspring; profit exceeds the mother's.

— Jiao Yanshou, Yilin (Forest of Changes), 1st century BCE

Commentary

Wind beneath heaven blows across a prosperous marketplace. Golden springs and yellow treasures are fit for trading; marriage produces offspring, and the profit exceeds the mother's original investment. The verse brims with material abundance and generative increase — precious metals, thriving commerce, fertile unions. Every line points toward multiplication of what one already holds. From Coming to Meet to Work on the Decayed, wind stirs beneath the mountain, ventilating what has grown stale. The encounter of Gou here initiates renewal through exchange: old goods are traded for fresh value, new marriages revitalize aging households. What was decaying is restored through the circulation of wealth and life.
