Yilin Verse
筐筥錡釜,可活百口。伊氏鼎俎,大福所起。
Baskets and kettles, cauldrons and pots, enough to sustain a hundred mouths. Yi Yin's sacrificial vessels are the wellspring of great fortune.

Commentary
A lake without water, but baskets and cauldrons stand ready. Square baskets and round containers, tripod kettles and cooking pots are enough to feed a hundred mouths. Then comes the cauldron of the Yi clan: Yi Yin, once a humble cook from the land of Youshen, who carried his tripod and chopping board to King Tang and through the art of cookery earned a minister's trust. From that cauldron, great blessings arose. From Oppression to Following, thunder rests within the lake, and the gentleman enters evening rest at dusk. The one who prepares nourishment for others discovers that others naturally follow. Yi Yin's cookery was not servility but adaptive leadership: meeting the patron where he stood and gently guiding him onward.
