Commentary
Fire within the lake yields to the lake resting upon the mountain — Influence, where sensation passes between what is above and what is below. But here the feet are severed and the heels cut; one's dwelling place offers no peace. Cruelty and evil leave only mutilation. Revolution was meant to liberate, yet what follows is the crippled body of Influence — a hexagram about mutual feeling between upper and lower that cannot function when the lower body is destroyed. Without feet there is no standing, no walking, no grounding. From Revolution to Influence, the grim transformation shows that when violence severs the connection between ruler and ruled, no mutual sympathy can form.
