Yilin Verse
駕車入里,求鮮魴鯉。非其肆居,自令後市。
Driving a cart into the village, seeking fresh bream and carp. This is not the market where they sell; one arrives only after the market has closed.
— Jiao Yanshou, Yilin (Forest of Changes), 1st century BCE
Commentary
Fire within the lake yields to heaven above wind — Coming to Meet, where an unexpected encounter alters everything. One drives a cart into the village seeking fresh bream and carp, but this is not where the fish market stands — one has arrived too late for the market. The fishmonger is elsewhere, the timing wrong, the location mistaken. Coming to Meet requires that the encounter be natural, not forced. The eager buyer who drives to the wrong village misses the catch entirely. From Revolution to Coming to Meet, the transformation warns that after upheaval, opportunities present themselves on their own terms. Pursuing them to the wrong address guarantees disappointment.
