Yilin Verse
楚靈暴虐,罷極民力。禍起乾溪,棄疾作毒。扶仗奔逃,身死亥室。
King Ling of Chu was cruel and oppressive, exhausting the people’s strength. Disaster arose at Qianxi; Qiji brewed his poison. Leaning on his staff, the king fled; he died in the chamber of Hai.

Commentary
Clouds above heaven shift to earth and heaven in communion — yet through cataclysm, not harmony. King Ling of Chu, brutal and extravagant, exhausted his people's strength with grandiose building projects. Disaster erupted at Qianxi, where he had built his lavish Zhanghua Terrace: his brother Qiji ('Abandoned Sickness') staged a coup, and the king fled on foot with a walking stick, only to die at the home of the officer Shenhai. According to tradition, he hanged himself in the room of a servant named Hai. The tyrant's fall paradoxically opens the way to renewal. From Waiting to Peace, the transformation reveals that true communion of heaven and earth requires the removal of what blocks their meeting.
