Yilin Verse
曳綸河海,釣魴與鯉。王孫利得,以饗仲友。
Trailing a line in rivers and seas, angling for bream and carp. The prince profits from the catch, to feast with his companions.
— Jiao Yanshou, Yilin (Forest of Changes), 1st century BCE
Commentary
Thunder and fire illuminate Abundance, yet the scene turns to quiet waters. A line trails through rivers and seas, angling for bream and carp. The noble scion profits from the catch and feasts with his companions. Fishing in great waters suggests drawing sustenance from vast resources, while 'Wang Sun' (noble scion) points to aristocratic leisure and shared bounty. The feast with 'Zhong You' (companions or a specific friend) emphasizes fellowship born from abundance. From Abundance to the Receptive, the blazing fullness of thunder-fire yields to earth's vast capacity: riches are not hoarded but distributed, as the bright harvest of prosperity settles into the receptive ground that nourishes all equally.
