Yilin Verse
天所佑助,福來禍去,君王何憂?
What heaven aids and protects, blessings arrive, calamities depart. What worry has the king?
— Jiao Yanshou, Yilin (Forest of Changes), 1st century BCE
Commentary
Water over lake holds everything in measure, and this verse declares that heaven itself assists those who govern with measure. Heaven protects and helps; blessings arrive while calamities depart. What has the ruler to worry about? The verse radiates an almost liturgical confidence — the assurance that cosmic support flows toward the righteous sovereign without need for anxious intervention. From Limitation to the Family, the transformation brings this divine favor home. Wind emerges from fire — warmth within the household radiating outward as gentle influence. The ruler protected by heaven governs as a patriarch whose words carry substance and whose actions maintain constancy. Limitation's regulatory framework, when blessed from above, becomes the Family's organic harmony: order not imposed but naturally sustained through mutual care.
