Sparrow eyes, swallow forehead, fearing the dark and lacking light; I long for my handsome lad, but do not see young Zi Chong.

注释
澤中有雷，雀目燕顙——雀之小目、燕之狹額，皆視力不佳之象。畏昏無光，懼於暮色將至。思我狡童——想念那俊美少年。不見子充——出《詩經·鄭風·褰裳》或《山有扶蘇》：「不見子充，乃見狡童」，女子思慕心上人而不得見。此詩將肉體之盲與情感之渴交疊：慾望追隨其對象步入黑暗，卻無法尋獲。從隨至大過（澤滅木），澤水漫過樹木——情感過度於昏暗之中，追尋已超越視力所能承受之極限。
