澤滅木，大過之象。東鄉煩煩，相與笑言——東鄰村落熱鬧，眾人談笑。子般鞭犖，圉人作患——子般鞭打圉人犖，馬夫遂成禍患。據《左傳·莊公三十二年》，子般為魯莊公嗣子。犖力大而行為不端，被子般鞭笞。莊公告誡：當殺則殺，不殺則勿辱——半途必招報復。莊公薨後，慶父遣犖刺殺子般。從大過至姤，不期之遇成殺機——以過度之刑處不可控之人，反將其推向敵方。
