Nine in the third place means: Darkening of the light during the hunt in the south. Their great leader is captured. One must not expect perseverance too soon.

明入地中，澤上有地，臨之象：權威臨近，兼有教化與包容。「爭訟不已，更相談訽」——訴訟不休，互相指控。「張季弱日，被髮北走」——張季勢衰之日，散髮向北倉皇而逃。張季其人尚有爭議，或指張敞，或為更早之典故中因禍而奔者。被髮者棄禮制之象，狼狽至極。從明夷至臨，紛爭與潰逃之亂象，須待正當權威之臨近方能止息。臨之教思無窮、容保民無疆，正是療治爭訟之道。
