兼山為艮，築關於石顛，立本於泉源——高處築防，源頭立基。然疾病不安，老狐為鄰。建設與衰敗並行：城垣初成而病患已至，廢墟之獸——老狐——已潛伏近旁。狐居廢墟為荒涼之兆。從艮至復（雷在地中），山化為地中一雷之象，冬至一陽復始。復許更新之機，然詩警示：須先驅逐老狐，方能讓春之初芽安然萌發。
