注释
水在火上，既濟之序。明德克敏——有明亮之德與敏銳之才。重華貢舉——重華（舜帝之名，因重瞳而號重華）被舉薦。放勳徵用——放勳（堯帝之號）徵召而用之。八哲蒙佑——八位賢哲受福佑。據《史記》，堯識舜之德而禪位於舜，舜復用八元八愷等賢臣治天下。從既濟至漸（山上有木），完成之序化為木生山上之漸進。漸之鴻依次升落於更高之處；舜自農夫至帝王，步步皆因實德而升，非一蹴而就，此即漸之精義。
