風行天上，化為天地不交之否。堅冰覆世，黃鳥常哀悲鳴。鷙鳥屢來驚擾，雛鳥為母之安危而憂懼不安。黃鳥之象出《詩經·小雅·黃鳥》：「黃鳥黃鳥，無集於桑」——客居異鄉之悲嘆，身在他國而受排擠。從小畜至否，柔風凝為嚴冰，天地閉塞不通。否為冬之卦：天地拒絕交流，陰陽隔絕。冰封、驚恐、弱鳥之哀，構成一切聯繫斷絕、溫暖不至之肅殺景象。君子以「儉德辟難」，正此時也。
