Nine at the top means: The rain comes, there is rest. This is due to the lasting effect of character. Perseverance brings the woman into danger. The moon is nearly full. If the superior man persists, Misfortune comes.

Intruders enter the gate, rushing about east and west. The young women no longer weave; the scholars abandon their fields. Bleached bones stretch a thousand li; the year grows cold, the harvest lost.

風行天上，化為雷風恆。然此處恆久者非德而為禍。客入門戶，百姓奔走東西；童女不織，士棄耕畝。暴骨千里，歲寒無年。從小畜至恆，詩示恆卦之暗面：當持續者非美德而為災難，恆久即為牢籠。雷風相激永不停歇，此處不歇者乃戰亂與饑荒。曠野白骨為苦難超越一切承受極限之可怖紀念碑。君子以「立不易方」——然所立者若非正道，不易即為不息之苦。
