鳧雁啞啞，以水為宅——鳧雁呱呱而鳴，以水為家。雌雄相和，心志娛樂，得其所欲——雌雄和鳴，心悅神怡，各得所願。此為自然配偶之歡快圖景：水鳥安於其所，匹配天成。啞啞之聲非悲鳴，乃歡鬧之聲。從大有至歸妹（澤上有雷），天火化為雷動於澤——長男引少女入門。歸妹論婚配之道，此詩呈其理想：兩情相悅、各得所求之天然結合。水鳥之水即其婚居之所。永終知敝，歸妹之訓在善始善終，此詩之和鳴正是良配之起點。
